This Cookies Policy explains what cookies are and how and why we use them on our autoglym.com, lifeshine.com, knowledgecentre.lifeshine.com, autoglymprofessional.com, myautoglym.com and guarantees.lifeshine.com (our Websites).  Please read the table below which explains which cookies are used on each of our Websites.

You can also read more about the personal information we collect and use in our Privacy Notice which can be found on each of our Websites.

You can see when this Cookies Policy was last updated at the top of the page.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers that is sent to your browser and stored on the hard drive of your computer (or internet enabled device) when you visit a website.

Our Websites use cookies to distinguish you from other users of our Websites. This helps us to provide you with a good experience when you use our Websites.

Our Websites use different types of cookies for different purposes – we use 'necessary' cookies so that our Websites operate efficiently and securely and 'preferences' cookies to remember your preferences when you visit our Websites, so that you enjoy a better experience when you visit our Websites.

We use 'statistics' cookies to improve our Websites and we and other companies use 'marketing' cookies to provide you with offers and advertising which we and they think will be of interest to you based on the websites you visit.  You can find more information about 'necessary', 'preferences', 'statistics' and 'marketing' cookies in the 'What cookies do we use?' section below.

Cookies set by us (Autoglym, a brand of Altro Limited) are called "first party cookies".  Cookies set by parties other than us, such as Facebook, Google or YouTube, are called "third party cookies".  Third party cookies enable third party features or functionality to be provided on or through our Websites (like personalised advertising, social media plug-ins, interactive content and analytics).  The companies that set these third party cookies can recognise your computer both when you use it to visit one of our Websites and also when you use your computer to visit other websites.  We also use some third party cookies to power the e-commerce sections of our Websites including Magento's cookies which provide shopping basket and check-out services.

What cookies do we use?

Our Websites use first party and third party cookies for several reasons.  The cookies that we use on our Websites fall into the following groups:

Necessary - some cookies are required for technical reasons in order for our Websites to operate – normally, we need your consent to use cookies, but we can use these types of cookies without your consent, because they are essential to the operation of our Websites.  You can disable these types of cookies by disabling them using your internet browser or operating system settings, but our Websites will not work properly if you choose to disable them.

Preferences - we use some cookies to remember your preferences in order to improve your experience of using our Websites – this includes cookies to remember whether or not you consent to the use of different types of cookies we use (e.g. 'preference', 'marketing' and 'statistics' cookies).

Marketing - these cookies enable us and other companies to track and target the interests of our Website users in order to build a profile about you and send you offers and advertisements which we and they think will be of interest to you based on your visits to our Websites and other websites.

Statistics – these cookies provide information about visitors to our Websites including the number of times you visit our Websites, how long you spend on our Websites, the pages you visit etc.  This enables us to understand how effective our Websites are.

You can find more detail about the types of cookies which are used on each of our Websites, who sets them, what they do and how long they last for in the table in the table below.

You can find more details about the types of first and third party cookies served through our Websites and the purposes they perform in the table below:

What can you do about cookies?

You have the right to choose whether or not to accept cookies and you can use the following tools to control your preferences:

Cookie Declaration - you have control over whether or not to accept 'Preferences', 'Statistics' and 'Marketing' cookies by selecting your preferences in the Cookie Declaration on our Websites [which use a cookie consent management dashboard].  Our 'necessary' cookies will always be on when you use our Websites as our Websites won't function properly without them and the law permits us to use these types of cookies without your consent.  You can change your preferences for 'Preference', 'Statistics' and 'Marketing' cookies at any time by selecting your preferences in our Cookie Declaration [for those Websites [which use a cookie consent management dashboard], As well as the options we provide through our Cookie Declaration to change your preferences, there are a number of other ways in which you can control the use of cookies including:

Browser & Operating System Settings - you can block cookies by changing your browser settings so that cookies from our Websites and other websites cannot be placed on your computer or mobile device. You can set or amend your web browser controls to accept or refuse cookies and your browser will provide different options (e.g. to disable all cookies or certain types of cookies).

The "help" portion of the toolbar on most internet browsers will tell you how to change your browser cookie settings, including how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie, and how to disable cookies altogether.

The privacy and browser settings in your operating system will also provide you with options to request that websites do not track your visits to them and stop you being tracked when you use different devices.

Please note that if you choose not to accept some types of cookies you may not have access to certain features that make your experience of our Websites more efficient and some of the features on our Websites may not function properly (and in particular, those parts of our Website which use 'necessary' cookies).

Third Party Cookies – you can opt out of some third party cookies which are used on our Websites either by using their online cookie management tools or using the preference tools provided by the advertising networks of which they are members (see 'Advertising Networks' below for more information).  You can find more information about how third parties who set cookies on our Websites will use cookies, who they are, the information which is collected by them when cookies are installed, how they use your information and how you can manage their cookies and tracking technologies by clicking on the links in the table below.  Please note that some of these companies simply provide services to us, but some companies (like Google, Facebook, YouTube and Quantserve) will use your information for their own purposes and they are the controller of the personal information which they collect about you when you use our Websites.

Advertising Networks – most advertising networks offer you a way to opt out of targeted advertising.  If you would like to find out more information, please visit http://www.aboutads.info/choices/ or http://www.youronlinechoices.com.  These websites will scan your device to tell you which of their members are using cookies on your devices in order to send you personalised advertising and provide you with the ability to turn-off cookies from those members that you choose, which includes some of the third parties who set cookies on our sites such as Facebook, Google and Quantcast.

Google Analytics – To opt out of being tracked by Google Analytics across all websites, Google has made a plug-in available which you can download and install on your web-browser so that Google Analytics do not track your online behaviour when you visit our Websites and other websites – you can download the plug-in here http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Email tracking

Cookies are not the only way to recognise or track visitors to a website.  We may use other, similar technologies from time to time, like web beacons (sometimes called "tracking pixels" or "clear gifs").  These are tiny graphics files that contain a unique identifier that enable us to recognise when someone has visited our Websites or opened an e-mail that we have sent them.  Some emails that we send you have no tracking in at all e.g. service emails with invoices attached. Other emails we send we put in tracking so that we can tell how much traffic those emails send to our Website, whether the user has opened and clicked on the email, which we can track to an individual level. We rarely use the latter information at a personal level, rather we use it to understand open and click rates on our emails to try and improve them. Sometimes we do use the personal information e.g. to re-email people who didn't click the first time. We will only contact you with marketing communications if you have provided your consent or if the law allows us to.  If you want to be sure that none of your email activity is tracked then you should opt out of Autoglym's emails which you can do via the link at the bottom of every email.  Also, in many instances, these technologies are reliant on cookies or similar technology (such as clear gifs) to function properly, and so declining cookies will impair their functioning.
